The West Kimberley region provides an endless backdrop of  breathtaking panorama.  It is a land that has taken millions of years to landscape, it is a vast and hostile land that has a rugged beauty found nowhere else.

There are literally thousands of creeks, bays and rivers some with freshwater springs, waterfalls and pockets of tropical rainforest with their own private eco systems.  The Kimberley coastline has the largest tides in the southern hemisphere and you will witness massive whirlpools, tidal upwellings and rapids in the open ocean.

On low tide coral reefs are exposed and a reefwalk will let you experience giant clams, crustaceans, coral fish and colorful coral in its rockpools.  There are many reefs such as Montgomery reef  which has 600 square kilometres of exposed coral where the water cascades over the edges forming thousands of oceanic waterfalls.  The base of the waterfalls abound with fish life.

The warm turquoise waters are home to myriad marine creatures and as we cruise the archipelago you may see dolphins, whales, turtles and of course many species of fish.  Birdlife is ever present with Sea-Eagles, Ospreys, Oystercatchers, Brahminy Kites and much more soaring in the thermals.  Of course there is the ever present saltwater crocodile.

Our coastal wilderness adventures take you anywhere from Derby right through to Wyndham which is the ultimate Kimberley explorer.  Cruise in comfort onboard KING TIDE as our friendly and casual crew take you on the journey of a lifetime.  Our cruises are designed to make you relax and enjoy the surrounds without lifting a finger.  Enjoy our fantastic cuisine with a mix of seafood and many other dishes with your favourite wine while watching the sun set over the calm sea.

You will marvel at the awesome scenery as you cruise the waters, explore gorges, disembark on one of the 1000's of deserted islands, swim in the crystal freshwater pools or while you are pulling in the catch of the day.

We live aboard KING TIDE whilst on the water and beach camping is available upon request.  We discourage beach camping though, as all of the best places do not have suitable beaches and involve a long run to a campsite and often a walk through deep mud. We rarely have to fight biting insects whilst on the water and our anchorages are perfectly calm. Most of our long hops between places are done at night while you enjoy dinner and it maximizes your time at the highlights rather than travelling.  Our vessel is well equipped with comfortable private accommodation, ample refrigeration and freezer space, 240v power, airconditioning , fully shaded viewing deck, fresh water from the desalinator and  long cruising range.

Many of our adventures also include a seaplane transfer to or from Derby.  The seaplane flight is a fantastic experience on its own and is not to be missed.

Exploring islands The Buccaneer Archipelago has over 1000 islands to explore.  They are all deserted except for Cockatoo Island. The islands have many beaches and are surrounded by coral reefs that is able to be explored at low tide.  The weathered rocks of Ediline island are a surreal setting for the ancient graves of pearlers.

Swimming  We have many beaches that are safe to swim in the warm turquoise water.  We also have a myriad of fresh swimming pools at springs and waterfalls along the coast.

Fishing  The waters of the Kimberley abound with many species of fish, huge Blacklip Oysters and mudcrabs. Refer to the fishing pages for more info.

Beachcombing  The many remote beaches abound with washed up treasures.  We find shells, bizarre driftwood, turtle nests and interesting rocks.

Birdwatching  Many species of birds call the archipelago home.  Sea eagles hover above us waiting for a fish to thrown into the air to swoop down and snatch in its talons.

Whale and Dolphin watching  Every year we encounter many humpback whales basking in the sun with their newborn calves.  A common sight is to see the whales lying on their backs and slapping their flukes on the surface.  Breaching where the whale jumps out of the water is also a common sight to behold.

Aboriginal Rockart  Ancient rockart galleries are hidden away along the coast.  Some of these galleries have the best Wandjina depictions and Bradshaw art around.

Massive Tides  The Buccaneer Archipelago hosts the largest tides in the southern hemisphere.  You can see huge whirlpools, mid-ocean rapids and other weird water flows.  We do reef walks on dried out coral reefs.

And of course, Crocodiles!  The fearsome Saltwater Crocodiles are right at home in the Kimberley estuaries.  Many are encountered on our trips and some just love to have their photo taken.

If you have a group where some people want to fish and the others want to do something different we just split the party up to suit everybody's needs. We don't have a set routine on the trips and you can do what you wish rather than what we set, for example, if you want to spend the day swimming in the waterfalls rather than anything else that's what we do, its your  holiday!

If you have a group of 8 people and you book the whole boat we are totally flexible in what you would like to do.  We can custom build your tour to suit.
